Trish Stratus delivered one of the standout matches of WWE Evolution 2 when she faced Tiffany Stratton, but the WWE Hall of Famer has now revealed the emotional struggle behind the bout.
On Instagram, Stratus admitted the match almost didn’t take place because she didn’t want to leave her mother, who was battling cancer at the time. Stratus explained that it was actually her mom who pushed her to go through with it, telling her to keep doing what she loved despite the circumstances.
“This match almost didn’t happen. When my mom got sick, I didn’t think it was the right time to step away – but she said, ‘Do it. Do what you can, while you can.’”
Those words stuck with Trish in a way that went far beyond wrestling. She said it became about life itself, finding strength in hardship, and appreciating the chance to live out moments that matter.
“Those words hit differently now. It wasn’t just about wrestling – it was about life. About showing up, even when it’s hard. About finding strength in the things that make you feel alive. I’m so grateful I did… and that I got to share that ring with my lil sis @tiffanywwe – who deserves all her flowers. It was special in more ways than one.”
Stratus revealed her mother passed away exactly one month after the event, but not before getting to see her daughter perform one final time. She also thanked the Atlanta crowd for the love they showed not just to her, but to every woman who stepped into the ring that night.
“Exactly one month later, my mom passed… but she got to see me do what I love, one last time. 🩶🪽 Shout out to Atlanta, I’ll never forget the love you showed not only me, but also every woman on that card. #wweevolution #atlanta @wwe @tkogrp”
For Stratus, that night will always be about more than just wrestling—it was about honoring her mom, finding strength, and creating a moment that will live on forever.
