Things are getting violent in Monterrey—fast.
Lucha Libre AAA has officially announced a major change to the main event of this weekend’s Triplemania Regia on June 15. The AAA Mega Championship match between current titleholder El Hijo del Vikingo and challenger Alberto El Patron will now take place inside a steel cage, turning what was already a heated rematch into a full-on war.
The stipulation was confirmed by AAA after Alberto El Patron personally demanded it. The chaos didn’t stop there. During the official press conference to promote the event, El Patron completely snapped—attacking Vikingo, slapping around Latin Lover, and even shoving a member of the press.
AAA’s post made the announcement loud and clear: “¡PAREN TODO! El Patrón Alberto quiere cambiar la lucha estelar de #TriplemaniaRegia a LUCHA EN JAULA.”
And the moment that set it all off was caught on video by Azteca Noreste Deportes, which described the scene: “¡SE VOLVIÓ LOCO EL PATRÓN! Alberto ‘El Patrón’ atacó a Hijo del Vikingo y a Latín Lover durante la conferencia… Hasta un compañero de prensa recibió agresión.”
This steel cage match comes just two weeks after Vikingo reclaimed the AAA Mega Championship from El Patron on May 31. That victory launched Vikingo into the spotlight heading into the AAA x WWE Worlds Collide event, where he defeated WWE’s Chad Gable—wrestling as El Grande Americano—in the main event to retain the title.
But now, Vikingo faces another brutal test, as El Patron looks to reclaim the gold in a cage with no escape.
The Triplemania Regia card is stacked with international firepower. TNA X-Division Champion Moose will defend his title in a four-way match against Joe Hendry, El Mesias, and Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. Also, AAA Tag Team Champions Forastero & Sanson will put their belts on the line in a chaotic four-way match against Angel & Berto, Psycho Clown & Pagano, and Nic & Ryan Nemeth.
There are currently no broadcast plans in the U.S. for the event. Mexican fans can catch it on the Max streaming service and the Space channel.
Will Alberto El Patron’s steel cage demand work in his favor—or is El Hijo del Vikingo ready to shut the door on this rivalry once and for all? Drop your thoughts in the comments below and let us know who you’re picking to walk out as champion.
