Triple H Calls Stephanie McMahon His “Rock” and Opens Up About Near-Death Health Scare

Triple H isn’t shy about giving credit where it’s due—and when it comes to his wife Stephanie McMahon, he laid it all out. During a sit-down interview with Patrick Talty, WWE’s Chief Content Officer dropped the rapid-fire word association game for a moment of real-life emotion when the topic turned to his wife.

When Talty simply said “Steph,” Triple H responded with a powerful answer that revealed just how much Stephanie has meant to him—especially after his serious heart issue in 2021. “That’s my rock,” he said.

But it didn’t stop there. Triple H went deeper, explaining that one of the most important decisions anyone will make is choosing the right partner—and he believes he got it right.

“We tell [interns]… the most important decision you’ll ever make in your life? It’s your spouse, for sure. And, you know, we tell them: choose wisely. Because it can be the greatest thing in the world for you… it can be the worst thing in the world for you if you choose poorly.”

“Luckily, I chose well. And hopefully she thinks she chose well. But, you know, it’s such an amazing partnership — and she’s truly my rock.”

Triple H then brought up his health scare and how it changed his entire outlook on life, making it clear that all the fame and money mean nothing without family.

“I had health issues a few years ago, which put life into perspective for you… and it certainly did for me — around family, and my kids, and my wife. And it’s the most important thing in the world to me.”

He wrapped up his thoughts with a message that should hit home for anyone in the grind.

“All the money you make, all the everything else — it’s just stuff. At the end of the day, your family, your wife, your kids — whatever that is for you — that’s the most important stuff in your life. No one’s gonna ask you how hard you worked on Tuesday when you die. Most people regret not spending time with their families… you don’t see too many people on their deathbed saying, ‘I wish I’d have made one more board meeting.’”.

Their relationship has been one of WWE’s most iconic real-life love stories. The two first connected on screen in a storyline romance in 1999, but the chemistry quickly became real. After dating privately for several years, they got married in 2003 and have since raised three daughters together. While their characters have been at the center of some of WWE’s wildest storylines, behind the curtain, they’ve been a powerful executive duo, helping steer the company through both creative evolution and corporate transitions. Stephanie stepped away from her WWE duties in 2023, but Triple H made it clear she’s still the center of his world.
