WWE’s 2025 Elimiation Chamber event will be remembered for a lot of things. In the end, many fans will remember how John Cena turned heel by attacking Cody Rhodes. That was quite a statement to make in Toronto’s Rogers Centre.
John Cena has gone his entire WWE career without a heel run. Now, he will get that opportunity as he has sided with The Rock in his storyline with Cody Rhodes.
During the Elimation Chamber post show, Triple H addressed John Cena’s heel turn. He gave Cena a ton of credit and flowers as he spoke on the daring move to turn heel during his final year with the company.
“When you get to the point where you have months left on your career, and your dream, and that thing that launched you to the rest of the world to movie stardom to everything else that he has in his life, it puts you in a different perspective. It puts you in a place where it’s now or never. You can ride that out, and you can rest on the things that you’ve done. You couldn’t blame John for doing that if he came in and did a nostalgia tour and waved to the crowd.”
“Or, someone like him can double down and say ‘screw it, I wanna be challenged till the last minute, I want to go down on my shield, I want to give everything I have. I want to challenge myself. I want to do something different. I want to have it all. That’s the beauty of John Cena. He’s always been the guy who does what’s best here, but he’s always the guy who will jump out on a limb. He’s always been the guy who will get out there and stick his neck on the line and gamble on himself and he did that tonight and it’s incredible to watch.”
Triple H went on to say that there was a moment when Cody Rhodes was out in the ring after everything was over, but Rock, John Cena, and Travis Scott were in the entrance ramp, and he didn’t think things could get any bigger than that.
We will have to see what happens on the road to WrestleMania 41. Only time will tell if we are heading toward John Cena’s 17 World Title reign in the company.
