TNA Wrestling is entering the Whoop That Era.

WWE’s NXT brand brought a loaded show to the Yuengling Center in Tampa, Florida, which didn’t even have NXT branding. Battleground was a huge event, and that included a historic title match.

Joe Hendry put his TNA World Title on the line at Battleground. This was a first, as no other TNA World Champion had ever defended their title on a WWE premium live event before.

This rivalry included a rap performance from Trick Williams, and Joe Hendry had a chance to plant another earworm with his own concert. Naturally, Trick Williams was looking to make a big statement and walk away as World Champion for another company.

This high-profile match was the main event of the night at Battleground. They also received a big match feel thanks to the ring introductions before the contest.

Trick Williams and Joe Hendry played a lot of mind games with each other for this match, and they also traded some moves early on. Williams eventually took control of the contest, but Hendry was right there to lay on the offense.

Fans in Tampa chanted “we believe” at Joe Hendry as the match kept going. However, Trick Williams didn’t let up at all. In fact, he only laid on the offense heavier. Then Hendry caught Trick Williams and slammed him down for a two count.

The match continued, and it appeared that Joe Hendry was injured at ringside. The referee went to check on him, but Trick Williams simply rolled him back into the ring. Joe Hendry took another ride into the steel steps, and then Hendry nailed a Rock Bottom on the announce table. He followed that up with a Trick Shot in the ring for a near fall.

Trick Williams brought the TNA World Title into the ring, and he wanted to hit him with it. However, Hendry rolled him up. After a distraction, Trick Williams nailed a Trick Shot to win the TNA World Title.

We will keep a close eye on this storyline, because the partnership with WWE and TNA Wrestling is far from over. Only time will tell what the next steps are, because Battleground was full of surprises.
