Trick Williams thought smacking a microphone out of Randy Orton’s hand would create a dramatic moment during their WWE segment. Instead, it turned into one of the more chaotic live TV moments he’s experienced — and apparently the locker room hasn’t let him forget it.
During an appearance on My Mom’s Basement, Williams opened up about the viral moment when the microphone he slapped out of Orton’s hand flew into the crowd. While the slap itself was planned, the direction the mic took definitely wasn’t. Williams admitted he had already decided ahead of time that he was going to knock the microphone away during the segment to make the moment look convincing.
“It’s funny because I made up in my mind early like I’m going to smack that microphone out of Randy Orton’s hand. I said if I’m going to do it then I got to smack it to make sure that, you know, I don’t look stupid. You know, it can’t just fall over. You know what I mean? Like I’mma smack the microphone out of his hand.”
Once it actually happened, things escalated fast. Instead of simply dropping to the ground, the microphone shot toward the audience, forcing Orton to react instantly.
“And when I hit it, the microphone, he instantly said, ‘Watch out,’ you can just see the microphone just go flying into the crowd. It was hilarious, man. I was like, ‘Oh shoot,’ like about to hit somebody and then you’re right, I had to snap back into it immediately.”
Because the show was live, Williams had to quickly recover and continue the segment as if everything went according to plan.
“Like immediately, like I meant what I did too, Randy.”
Even though nobody was hurt and the segment continued without further issues, Williams said the moment followed him backstage — where other WWE stars were quick to bring it up.
“Yeah, a little bit. Man, I tried to learn some German and say I’m sorry real quick, but I don’t think they understood what I was saying.”
The joke came after Williams explained that he still catches some heat from colleagues over the incident, which nearly sent the microphone into the audience during the live segment. Looking back, Williams said he expected the segment to get attention — but the reason it did wasn’t exactly what he had in mind.
“This is one of those moments like I knew we going to go viral tonight ‘cause I’mma smack the microphone. I didn’t think I was going to go viral like that.”
Moments like this are part of the unpredictability that comes with live wrestling television, and Williams seems to be taking the situation in stride — even if the locker room hasn’t stopped reminding him about it.
