Trick Williams is officially part of the SmackDown roster in 2026—but now we know how the call-up from NXT actually went down behind the scenes.
During his appearance on the No Contest Wrestling podcast on January 21, 2026, Trick was asked how his promotion to the main roster came together, and his answer pulled back the curtain on how WWE handles these big career moments. Trick explained that the process wasn’t some dramatic meeting or phone call—it all started with a surprise text message from an unfamiliar number.
“Man, it’s about time. You know what I mean? You can’t cook your grits too long, you know what I’m saying? You get a text message from a random number: ‘Congratulations. You are needed for creative.’”
At first, Trick said he wasn’t even sure if it was legit. After that initial message, everything moved fast. Williams said WWE used an internal app to send travel and creative instructions, making it clear his time had come.
“So I was like, man, I hope it’s real. You know what I mean? You get notified through an app that, hey, this is how we’re going to get you to the destination—and then you’re off to the races.”
When asked whether he got to choose which brand he would join, Trick Williams didn’t hesitate to shut that down, saying, “No. No, no, I didn’t get no say.” It all led to Trick’s call-up on the January 2, 2026 episode of SmackDown in Buffalo, where he interrupted Sami Zayn and declared his intent to become a World Champion.
Trick Williams didn’t just walk into SmackDown—he was pulled into it through a fast-moving, modern-day WWE process that starts with a mystery text and ends with a roster-defining moment. So it’s clear that his rise to the main roster is as real as it gets.
