Trick Williams is finally addressing Carmelo Hayes losing the United States Championship—and he’s making it clear where he stands.

Following the March 27 episode of WWE SmackDown, where Hayes dropped the title and seemingly lost his WrestleMania 42 spot, Trick Williams opened up about the situation during an appearance on Mornings With Mero on HOT 97 on March 30, 2026.

Williams started by acknowledging their history, reminding everyone that his connection with Hayes goes back years—but made it clear that inside the ring, he’s focused on whoever is in front of him.

“Carmelo Hayes, my longtime tag team partner — we’ve got a lot of history back in the day. I don’t care who’s in front of me, everybody’s gonna get it.”

Even with that competitive mindset, Williams quickly shifted the tone and showed respect for Hayes, making it clear he believes his former partner still deserves a big moment. He also hinted that Hayes’ story might not be over just yet, suggesting there’s still a chance things could change heading into WrestleMania.

“But nah, all jokes aside, me and Melo, we go way back, of course. And I would love to see him get his moment, and he deserves that. And you never know — he probably still will.”

Williams didn’t stop there—he directly credited Hayes for the work he put into elevating the United States Championship during his reign: “You know what I mean? He carried that US Title great, so he deserves his moment, and I’m sure he’s going to get his moment.”

The comments come at a time when Hayes’ WrestleMania status is uncertain following the title loss, but Williams’ words show there’s still belief—at least from inside the locker room—that Hayes hasn’t been written out of the picture just yet. For Trick Williams, it’s business in the ring—but when it comes to Carmelo Hayes, there’s clearly respect, history, and a belief that his moment isn’t gone for good.

Do you think Carmelo Hayes should still be added to the WrestleMania 42 match, or is it time for WWE to move forward without him? Drop your thoughts below and let us know.
