AJ Styles’ return to TNA at Slammiversary is officially set, but not everyone’s rolling out the red carpet.
During an appearance on Busted Open Radio, TNA World Champion Trick Williams didn’t hold back when asked about the Phenomenal One’s comeback—calling it out as conveniently timed.
The hosts pitched a scenario where AJ confronts Trick after his Slammiversary title defense. Trick immediately fired off, framing Styles’ return as an opportunistic move now that TNA’s on fire.
“Hey man, every dog has his day. AJ has had his day, but there’s a new lion on top of the mountain now. There’s a new lion on top of Pride Rock. I find it ironic the moment that we see that TNA is about to break these records, that hey, we’re on the brink of doing something crazy, AJ Styles decides he’s going to come back to TNA. I find that to be pretty ironic.”
But Trick didn’t stop there. He reminded listeners of a recent promo in Atlanta, where fans chanted AJ’s name when he asked who the greatest TNA Champion of all time was. Instead of being phased, Trick used it as motivation to cement his own legacy.
“I called him out on a few podcasts. We was in Atlanta — what, last week? — I told everybody, ‘Who’s the greatest TNA Champion of all time?’ And the crowd decided to chant AJ Styles’ name. So hey, this what y’all wanted? Let’s go there then.”
Carlos Silva also addressed AJ Styles’ return on the same show, explaining the reason for the delayed announcement. According to Silva, they needed to finalize all logistics for getting AJ to New York. With speculation swirling over whether it was AJ Francis or Styles being teased, they finally made the call to just let fans know it was indeed that AJ.
With Bound for Glory around the corner, speculation is running wild that Styles could step to Trick for the TNA World Championship. If that confrontation happens, it won’t just be nostalgia—it’ll be a power struggle for the soul of the company.
