With speculation swirling about Chris Jericho potentially returning to WWE, AEW broadcaster Tony Schiavone has offered his perspective on the rumors—and he’s just as in the dark as everyone else.

The conversation picked up after Jericho liked an Instagram post suggesting he should go back to WWE. That small move sparked widespread reports, with outlets like WrestleVotes claiming there is “significant interest” from WWE in bringing the 54-year-old back.

On his What Happened When podcast, Schiavone addressed the rumors when asked if he’d heard anything behind the scenes.

“If there is smoke to that fire, it has not been thrown my way.”

Schiavone noted that he spent most of AEW’s recent overseas tour backstage with Tony Khan and never once heard Jericho’s name mentioned.

“I was backstage with Tony Khan most of this entire trip. Chris Jericho’s name was not mentioned, but that doesn’t mean anything. Tony a lot of times will make this — he’ll get on the phone with that person and not tell anybody. He likes to keep things close to the vest. I don’t know, I really don’t know. I’ve been wondering myself. I guess I should’ve asked and then I would’ve known.”

He went on to explain why he intentionally avoids asking about sensitive topics like talent negotiations.

“I don’t ask because I don’t want to get blamed if it leaks. The less you know, the better.”

While fans continue to dissect Jericho’s social media activity for clues, Tony Schiavone is keeping his distance from the drama—literally and figuratively.
