WWE shook up the wrestling world last month by acquiring Mexican lucha libre promotion AAA, and now Konnan is shedding some light on how Tony Khan really feels about the deal.

During his appearance on the Keepin’ It 100 podcast, Konnan was asked how the AEW President reacted to WWE’s latest power move. According to Konnan, he asked around backstage in AEW and was told that Khan was in England when the news broke. “They said Tony Khan kind of no-sold it—like, ‘Yeah, that’s good. You know, that’s good for business,’” Konnan shared.

Despite the seemingly indifferent response, Konnan believes Khan wasn’t thrilled about WWE taking control of AAA. “You’ve got to think he doesn’t really like it, because he went way out of his way to try to hurt AAA by working with CMLL,” Konnan explained. Khan’s partnership with CMLL has been positioned as a direct counter to AAA, making WWE’s acquisition a significant move in the wrestling landscape.

Konnan wrapped up his take with a blunt, “It is what it is,” leaving the door open for more fallout in the months ahead.

This isn’t the first time Konnan has addressed WWE’s plans for AAA. He recently emphasized that WWE’s handling of the promotion will be nothing like what happened with ECW years ago. Konnan stated that “Triple H is a much different person than Vince McMahon and he values working with other companies,” suggesting that AAA will retain its identity despite the WWE banner.

Meanwhile, AEW continues to solidify its alliance with CMLL. Their upcoming Grand Slam: Mexico event has already sold out, indicating that Khan is keeping his focus on his own business rather than worrying about WWE’s moves with AAA.
