The change in Nielsen ratings has already started affecting pro wrestling ratings in a big way. The October 1st edition of Dynamite saw a huge decrease in ratings under the new system and now Tony Khan’s reaction to the new system has been revealed.

According to Fightful Select, a source within AEW said that Tony Khan is fully aware of the recent Nielsen TV ratings measurement changes and understands exactly how they work and what they mean for the company.

The source also noted that AEW’s viewership numbers from Max streaming for Collision and Dynamite are not publicly reported, and the actual streaming figures are kept very private.

“One source in AEW said that Tony Khan is well aware of the Nielsen TV ratings measurement changes, how they work and is adept at what they mean specifically.

With AEW numbers, Max streaming is not reported for Collision and Dynamite, and the actual viewership emerging from those is kept very quiet.”

The October 1st episode of AEW Dynamite averaged 465,000 viewers, representing a 16.1% drop compared to the 554,000 viewers on September 24. So it’s clear this will become the norm soon enough.

Tony Khan’s calm and informed response shows that AEW clearly understands the long-term effects of the Nielsen rating changes and is prepared to adjust as needed. Even if ratings change, AEW’s presence across multiple platforms and its loyal fanbase ensure the company remains a big deal in modern professional wrestling for the foreseeable future.
