Tony Khan isn’t ready to let go of Chris Jericho just yet.
With speculation heating up about Jericho possibly returning to WWE for one last run, the AEW boss made it clear during a recent radio interview that he’s still holding out hope for a reunion in his own company.
Speaking to The Torg and Elliott Show this week, Khan reaffirmed his admiration for Jericho and teased that fans may not have to wait much longer to see the Demo God back on AEW programming.
“Chris Jericho’s been here since the very beginning. And I have so much great respect for Chris Jericho. I do really have to say I would love to have Chris Jericho in AEW any time. Yeah, we absolutely want Chris Jericho back in AEW, and hopefully soon. He’s been great with us and he’s been with us since the very first event. The very first AEW World Champion. And Chris is a huge part of the history of AEW and still in great shape, still a great wrestler.”
When asked directly if Jericho will return to the AEW ring, Khan gave a classic promoter-style response that leaves the door wide open.
“Well, I think you got to stay tuned to the show,” Khan replied. “That’s one of the reasons you watch the wrestling show is to see the returns, and we just talked at the beginning of the call about, you know, keeping secrets and stuff like that, so I think stay tuned.”
Jericho has been absent from AEW programming since April after receiving mixed reactions from fans. He reportedly took time off to reset during a turbulent chapter in his run. His contract is set to expire at the end of the year, adding fuel to the WWE speculation fire.
Still, the 54-year-old addressed the WWE rumors in a recent chat with the Daily Mail, making it clear he’s open to possibilities but staying rooted—for now.
“So I’m not going anywhere for a while, I’m still with AEW for right now. Would I go back to WWE? I wouldn’t be opposed to it. We just have to see what happens,” Jericho said.
“But the best thing that can happen is that you have two great teams that you can play for, and that just makes everything bigger and more exciting.”
If AEW and WWE are the two teams, it sounds like Jericho isn’t ready to commit to either locker room for the long haul. But with Khan making public plays and Jericho playing both sides like a pro, it’s safe to say the game is far from over.
