Tony Khan isn’t rushing to slap the AEW name on Ring of Honor—but the idea is still very much alive.

Nearly a year after teasing that ROH could benefit from being rebranded as AEW: Ring of Honor, Khan gave an update on the situation and explained why, for now, he’s keeping things separate.

During an interview with WFAA, Khan was asked directly about his comments from 2024 regarding the potential name change. He made it clear that while the concept makes sense, it’s not as simple as just flipping the switch.

“Great Question. I still think there’s a great chance to develop ROH. We really have done a lot of work to develop ROH. They are unique companies, structurally. I think that does make a lot of sense, and I still think there’s merit to that, but there are also a lot of reasons why I’ve positioned the way I have.

Khan pointed to AEW’s massive media rights deals and the ripple effect they’ve had across the wrestling landscape. According to him, any change involving Ring of Honor has to make sense for both companies—not just from a branding standpoint, but financially too.

“I still think we have a chance to strike at great opportunities. AEW has made huge media rights deals that have changed the landscape for all wrestling companies, including ROH, and any deal we do, it’s got to make really good sense for everyone involved, including us at ROH and also AEW.”

For now, Khan seems content with how Ring of Honor is positioned, especially with champions like Athena and Bandido holding it down.

Bottom line — Tony Khan isn’t ready to rush into turning Ring of Honor into an AEW-branded product, but he’s clearly keeping that card in his back pocket. With the money AEW’s pulling in and ROH quietly rebuilding, it’s only a matter of time before Khan decides whether to merge the brands or keep them in their own lanes. Either way, fans better keep watching — because when Khan finally makes that move, you won’t miss it.
