Tony Khan Reveals Why AEW May Keep Early Start Times for Future Pay-Per-Views

AEW All Out had an early start time of 3 PM ET, which was a conscious decision made by Tony Khan. This has now led to many wondering if other pay-per-views will get early start times consistently and now Khan has revealed his stance on the matter.

While speaking on the post-AEW All Out media scrum, Tony Khan was asked if he would consider making more AEW pay-per-views start earlier in the day.

Khan explained that it’s definitely something to think about, especially for Saturday shows. With the way the schedule works and how AEW plans its events, early start times make sense and could even work for some Sunday shows. Khan pointed out that three straight AEW pay-per-views have used this approach successfully.

All In: Texas had an early start time that worked well, and the timing also fit perfectly for fans in the UK. Forbidden Door in London followed the same pattern with an afternoon start on the East Coast and primetime in the UK.

Because of these results, Khan said early start times are a major factor AEW is considering for future pay-per-views, whether they fall on Saturdays or Sundays.

“It’s definitely something to think about, especially on Saturdays. The way the schedule works and what we’re doing, I do think there’s something to it. It’s to be considered for some Sundays too. It’s been tremendous for three straight pay-per-views. I’ve taken it into consideration—All In: Texas had that early start time, and having that manageable start time in the UK made sense. Then we were in London for Forbidden Door, and that also had an afternoon start time. So that’s the third straight pay-per-view that had an afternoon start time on the East Coast and the third straight pay-per-view that had primetime in the UK. Absolutely that’s a huge consideration to us, that is a big part of it. It’s absolutely one of the considerations we have thought about here. Whether it’s Saturday or Sunday, it’s definitely something to think about.”

Tony Khan’s comments make it clear that AEW might start making afternoon pay-per-views a regular thing as the company grows around the world. By focusing on schedules that work better for fans and making it easier for international audiences to watch live, AEW is determined to cater to a wider audience. So we’ll actually have to see if more pay-per-views will have earlier start times in the future.
