Chris Jericho’s future in AEW is a major topic since many believe he will return to WWE soon. While speculation continues, Tony Khan has now addressed Jericho’s status with the company.
While speaking on the Ariel Helwani Show, Tony Khan addressed Chris Jericho’s current status in AEW during his absence, noting that Jericho has been with the company since day one and played a major role in helping launch AEW. Even though he’s been away recently, Khan pointed out that Jericho has still had strong matches this year, including his bout with Bandido.
“Chris Jericho is someone who’s been in AEW from the very beginning. He’s been away for a bit, but even this year he’s had great matches, like the one with Bandido. From day one of AEW, he was absolutely as key and important as anyone in launching the company.”
Khan said he cares about Jericho both personally and professionally, mentioning that he recently reached out to wish him a happy birthday. He stated that Jericho remains part of AEW, and while he couldn’t confirm when or if Jericho will return, the door is always open for him.
“I love Chris both personally and professionally. I recently reached out to wish him a happy birthday. I’m very excited about everything he’s done in AEW, and he continues to be part of us. Is he going to be back? I can’t speak to that, but I love having Chris in AEW, and the door is always open for him.”
Regarding Jericho’s current time away, Khan explained that it mostly comes down to scheduling and working out dates. He chose not to discuss Jericho’s contract, but said he hopes they can bring him back. With a star of Jericho’s level, AEW negotiates a specific number of dates each year, and Khan noted that Jericho has always been fully committed when he is present.
Khan also recalled that early on, they planned ways for Jericho and his band Fozzy to stay involved, sometimes through video appearances on Dynamite. Khan added that if they can sort out the scheduling and other details, he would always be happy to have Jericho in AEW.
“As for why he’s away right now, some of it comes down to working out dates. His deal? I’d rather not get into that. I hope we’ll get Chris back. With a star like Jericho, you negotiate a certain number of dates. Chris has always been great about being all-in when he’s here. Early on, we talked about finding ways for Chris and Fozzy to stay involved, so sometimes Jericho would have video appearances or show up on Dynamite. If we can work out all the dates and everything else, I would always love to have him here.”
Chris Jericho’s future in AEW may still be unclear, but Tony Khan made one thing clear: Jericho is an important part of the company, and AEW is always ready to welcome him back. So we’ll have to see what will become of Jericho in the end.
