AEW’s backstage routine has undergone a major shift, and this time it’s coming straight from the top.
Tony Khan, who previously relied on one-on-one discussions throughout the day, has now moved to hosting full-scale production meetings before AEW television tapings.
Bryan Alvarez revealed the change via F4WOnline and his Wrestling Observer Live show, noting that AEW has “been doing actual production meetings for a while now,” where Khan gathers “the top agents, announcers, etc., all in a room together to go over things before the shows.” This new format marks a significant change from Khan’s earlier method.
“Tony’s production meeting was, well, I go and I meet with these guys and then I go meet with these guys… He just did these meetings throughout the day and that was what he considered production meetings.”
“Other people were like, that’s not a production meeting. So the point of this is, of late, he actually is now doing production meetings.”
This restructuring couldn’t come at a more critical time for AEW. The company is currently heading into a packed calendar of major events, including the AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door crossover show on August 24 in London.
As AEW continues to expand globally, it looks like Tony Khan is taking a more traditional approach behind the scenes—one that could bring a new level of consistency and communication to the product.
