Tony Khan just made a major change to his Mount Rushmore of professional wrestling, and it’s got fans talking.
The AEW president and lifelong wrestling fan has never been shy about his favorites, but in a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, he revealed that he’s updated his list, officially placing Sting among his all-time greats.
“I would say the undefeated AEW World Tag Team Champion who retired last year at Revolution, Sting, Ric Flair, Steve Austin, and Bret Hart.”
This marks a significant shift from his September 2023 list, where Ricky Steamboat held a spot. Now, Sting has taken his place, cementing his status as one of the most influential wrestlers in history.
Khan also made it clear that Sting’s farewell at AEW Revolution 2024 was one of the biggest moments in company history, even calling it his favorite thing AEW has ever done. It’s no surprise then that when asked who he’d put on the cover of Sports Illustrated to represent AEW, he didn’t hesitate. “I would choose Sting to be on the cover.”
Khan’s admiration for the Icon runs deep, and it seems like Sting’s final AEW run left an undeniable mark on him.
But that wasn’t the only headline from the interview—Khan also made an open invitation to Luka Dončić and the Los Angeles Lakers to attend AEW Revolution this year. With AEW always looking for mainstream attention, bringing NBA stars into the mix could add even more eyes to the event.
With Sting now solidified on Khan’s Mount Rushmore, it raises the question—who’s on yours? Did he make the right call replacing Ricky Steamboat? Drop your thoughts in the comments!
