Tommaso Ciampa didn’t just walk into AEW—he walked in, took the TNT Championship, and made it clear he’s not here for nostalgia.

AEW President Tony Khan opened up about Ciampa’s arrival and mindset during an interview on 107.7 The Bone, confirming the veteran isn’t interested in people talking about his past. He’s locked in on proving that his best work is happening now. Khan said signing Ciampa was a no-brainer, praising him as a game-changer for the roster:

“He's a fantastic wrestler, and to have somebody of his quality come in — instantly, he's additive in AEW. We've got somebody that's joined us that can have fantastic matches, whether it's people he's lined up against in past wrestling matches, whether it's an old rival or somebody fresh and new that he's never matched up against. There's so many exciting possibilities for Tommaso Ciampa in AEW.”

Ciampa recently addressed critics who claim his prime was back in 2018, and Tony Khan was quick to echo that sentiment. The AEW boss confirmed Ciampa’s chip-on-his-shoulder attitude is real—and he’s here to silence doubters.

“There’s a lot of people he’s got existing fired-up rivalries against, but then also there’s brand new rivalries and possibilities with so many fantastic young wrestlers — because AEW is where the best wrestle.”

Ciampa has already issued an open challenge for his TNT Championship on AEW Collision, and Khan hinted the door is wide open for marquee matchups across the roster—both fresh and familiar.

Tommaso Ciampa in AEW isn’t about revisiting his past—it’s about rewriting his legacy on a bigger stage. AEW’s newest champion isn’t playing it safe. He’s hunting down the best, and he’s doing it with something to prove.
