Tony Khan is pulling back the curtain on why Bryan Danielson is officially joining the AEW Dynamite commentary desk—and according to the AEW President, it was a decision rooted in pure logic and perfect timing.

During an appearance on the Battleground Podcast, Khan revealed the idea first sparked while prepping for Forbidden Door, the cross-promotional supershow featuring talent from around the globe. With Danielson’s international experience and deep understanding of wrestling, Khan saw an opportunity to amplify AEW’s broadcast with a legitimate voice of the sport.

“As we were preparing for Forbidden Door, I thought Bryan would be fantastic on the commentary team for that show. Knowing the background he has, knowing his insights into pro wrestling and how prepared he is and how much research he does on pro wrestling worldwide… it made total sense.”

But it wasn’t just Bryan’s technical expertise that sold Khan. It was also the fact that fans genuinely want more of Danielson—whether he’s wrestling or just speaking.

“I think Bryan’s a great star and people want to see Bryan Danielson on television and hear Bryan Danielson on television. And thankfully, he’s got very intelligent, insightful things to say when he does talk.”

Once Forbidden Door aired and Danielson crushed it on commentary, Khan said the decision practically made itself.

“He did a fantastic job on Forbidden Door. So, I had talked to him—maybe after his promotional tour of Australia was complete—about Bryan joining us on Wednesday, and it worked out perfect.”

Khan emphasized that this isn’t just a nice bonus for fans—it’s a strategic move. Danielson adds credibility, depth, and a rare kind of knowledge to AEW’s weekly product.

“Anytime we’re able to bring on Bryan Danielson to do anything in AEW, it’s great—but especially to provide very very intelligent, insightful commentary on pro wrestling.”

Bryan Danielson’s new role kicks off immediately, with Khan confirming he’ll be behind the mic on Wednesday Night Dynamite. His transition to the commentary booth could signal a new chapter for AEW’s presentation—one that values sharp, thoughtful analysis as much as in-ring action.
