AEW President Tony Khan has now explained why the company announces matches on the day of shows.

Tony Khan took to Twitter and held a live session, where he explained why AEW often announces matches on the same day as the show. He said that making last-minute announcements helps create hype and gets fans talking.

Khan noted that it grabs attention and gives people a reason to tune in, especially when there’s something exciting planned. According to Khan, these day-of announcements usually get the most engagement on social media and do really well in getting fans interested.

“A lot of times, wrestling companies will make some announcements on the day of the show because they get engagement. It’s a way to get you talking about the show, get you interested in the show, and do something to say ‘hey, there’s something big on this show tonight. You’re gonna want to watch.’ Typically, those match announcements are the most engagement you’re gonna get on the day of the show. I think they do very, very well.”

Some fans like the surprise of last-minute match announcements, but others think AEW doesn’t give enough time to build up the matches. Even then, Tony Khan has made it clear he will continue to announce matches on the day of shows and that’s not going to change anytime soon.

What do you think of AEW’s last-minute match announcements? Do they build excitement or hurt long-term storytelling? Sound off in the comments.
