Earlier this year, Tony Khan announced the creation of the ROH Women’s Pure Championship for the Ring of Honor women’s division. While he did confirm a tournament, there’s been no updates on it and now Khan has explained the reason for the delay.

While speaking during the ROH Death Before Dishonor media call, Dave Meltzer asked Tony Khan about the delay in starting the ROH Women’s Pure Title tournament.

Tony Khan explained that he originally had plans for Syuri in ROH, but she suffered an injury in her very first appearance. He added that the bracket for the tournament had already been set, but this week he was forced to delay announcements because of more injuries affecting the lineup.

Khan also mentioned Queen Aminata, whose stolen passport disrupted plans for her to appear on Wednesday. However, he noted that the issue seemed to be resolved and she is expected to be available for Death Before Dishonor.

The ROH Women’s Pure Championship was set to be crowned through a sixteen-woman single-elimination tournament. The inaugural title match was originally planned for Supercard of Honor but was pulled from the event due to timing issues.

On the April 24 episode of ROH on HonorClub, it was revealed that Queen Aminata and Serena Deeb would face each other in the first round. Other confirmed participants included Deonna Purrazzo, Taya Valkyrie, and Leila Grey. On May 23, 2025, Billie Starkz was officially added to the tournament lineup.

Even though injuries and travel problems have delayed it, Tony Khan has promised that it will still take place with some of the best women wrestlers in the world. Fans might have to wait a little longer, but the end result should be worth it, so we’ll have to see when the tournament will finally start.

Who do you think should be crowned the first ROH Women’s Pure Champion once the tournament starts? Sound off in the comments.
