In a bold move that now seems like it might’ve been too ambitious, Tony Khan was reportedly planning to hold ROH Supercard of Honor in the same city as WWE’s WrestleMania 41—right in the heart of Las Vegas.
According to WrestleZone, sources in Las Vegas claim AEW was working with a venue near Fremont Street to host the ROH Supercard of Honor over WrestleMania weekend. While ROH has traditionally held the event during WWE’s biggest weekend of the year, this would’ve been the first time it landed so close to WWE’s flagship event. However, those plans have now been scrapped, and the show is officially off the WrestleMania weekend calendar.
It’s unclear why AEW decided to pull the plug, but trying to run a competing event in the same area as WrestleMania 41—a two-night extravaganza set to take over Allegiant Stadium—might have been a stretch, even for Tony Khan. WWE has dominated WrestleMania weekend for decades, and going head-to-head with The Showcase of the Immortals in the same city could have been an uphill battle.
ROH Supercard of Honor has been a WrestleMania weekend tradition since 2006, with classic main events like Nigel McGuinness vs. Jerry Lynn and Jay Briscoe vs. Samoa Joe cementing its legacy. The 2024 edition even ended with Mark Briscoe defeating Eddie Kingston to become ROH World Champion. But as of now, the 2025 show is not happening in Las Vegas, and it’s unclear if it will take place at a later date or a different location.
While the idea of sharing a city with WrestleMania might seem bold, it also raises questions about how much attention Supercard of Honor could realistically draw with WWE taking center stage.
What do you think about Tony Khan’s original plan to run ROH Supercard of Honor in Las Vegas during WrestleMania weekend? Could it have worked, or was it too risky? Share your thoughts in the comments!
