Tony Khan isn’t hiding how much Jim Ross means to AEW—and now the AEW President is leaving the door wide open for JR to make a surprise appearance at next weekend’s massive All In Texas event.
During an interview with TMZ Sports, Khan reflected on JR’s legendary career, his health battle, and how much it would mean to have the Hall of Fame broadcaster back on AEW programming.
Khan was asked about JR recently being declared cancer-free and publicly thanking Khan for supporting him through his health struggles. Khan made it clear the relationship between him and Ross goes far beyond business.
“Jim Ross is an indispensable part of AEW. He’s the greatest wrestling commentator of all time. I first heard JR’s voice when I was eight years old and he immediately hooked me with his commentary. He is a great man. He’s done so much in wrestling and he’s the original voice of AEW.”
Khan also pointed out how important Ross was to the launch of AEW, crediting him as the voice behind their first pay-per-view and Dynamite episodes. For Khan, supporting Ross during his recovery wasn’t even a question—it was personal.
“We’re celebrating 300 Dynamites this week — JR was on the original Dynamites — and he’s been through some really tough health battles. And I think it’s important to stand with Jim. Jim’s done a lot for AEW and me personally, and it means a lot that I can be there and stand by Jim in a tough time for him.”
With JR now recovering well and declared cancer-free, the big question is whether he’ll show up at AEW’s biggest U.S. show ever in Texas. Khan made it clear it’s a possibility, but only if Ross feels ready.
“It would be amazing. I don’t want to put too much on Jim’s plate, but it certainly would be amazing and I would love it and I hope that it’s possible. I certainly really feel like Jim’s making great strides in his recovery. That would be an amazing thing if we can make it happen, and hopefully we could.”
Ross has been a major part of AEW since its first day, and his return at All In Texas would be the ultimate full-circle moment for fans—especially in his home state.
