The controversy surrounding Britt Baker’s AEW status isn’t just about her being off TV—according to Stevie Richards, it’s Tony Khan’s failure to manage his locker room.
On The Stevie Richards Show, the former WWE star didn’t hold back, calling out Khan for letting the situation escalate instead of stepping in early. “I’m going to back right up because these kinds of confrontations or these things not getting along with other girls… Tony would always pick her over whoever,” Richards said, referring to Baker’s early days in AEW when she was seen as a top priority for the company.
Richards pointed out that any tensions involving Baker should have been addressed long before they reached this level. “This is when the case against her as far as other female wrestlers was just getting started,” he said. “Tony was taking her side in 100% of those clashes.” He compared the situation to other locker room controversies in AEW, including CM Punk’s issues with the EVPs and the fallout between Punk and Jack Perry.
“Tony seems to take sides instead of being the boss and telling everybody to stop from day one,” Richards continued. “It’s Tony’s fault to let this stuff fester. If she was that bad, it should have been something that was nipped in the bud on day one or any early stages of whatever locker room issues there were going to be.”
With Baker still off TV and no creative plans in sight, AEW’s handling of the situation raises major questions about leadership. If Khan truly lost control of the locker room, this may not be the last fallout he has to deal with.
