Jon Moxley is currently part of one of AEW’s biggest storylines as a member of the Death Riders. However, the angle has faced a lot of criticism, especially regarding Moxley’s role as AEW World Champion. With that said, it has now been revealed whether Moxley and Tony Khan are aware of the backlash and concerned about the same.
While speaking on The Hump, Sean Ross Sapp was asked how aware Tony Khan and Jon Moxley are of the negative fan reactions to Moxley’s Death Rider run and whether they are concerned.
Sapp revealed that they are definitely aware of the criticisms and have been for a while. They also knew that many fans assumed Darby Allin would win the title upon his return, but they clarified that nothing was set in stone and that it wasn’t necessarily the plan. He added that this was a topic of discussion backstage, something that was absolutely talked about. But overall, they are aware of the situation.
“They’re aware of the criticisms—they are definitely aware and have been for a while. They also knew that many assumed Darby was going to win the title upon returning, but they said that’s not necessarily set in stone. That’s not necessarily what’s happening either. That was discussed backstage—it was absolutely discussed. But they’re aware.”
As for Jon Moxley’s current direction in AEW, he is set to defend the AEW World Championship against Adam Copeland at the Revolution pay-per-view next month and fans are genuinely looking forward to the bout.
With AEW closely watching fan reactions, it will be interesting to see if any changes are made to Moxley’s title reign or The Death Riders storyline in the coming weeks, as anything could happen in the world of professional wrestling.
