Since leaving WWE after WrestleMania 39, Shane McMahon has stayed out of wrestling. Last year, rumors spread that he might join AEW, especially after meeting with Tony Khan. However, nothing happened after that meeting and now it seems Tony Khan ghosted him after that meeting.

On July 29, 2024, Tony Khan and Shane McMahon had a private meeting near Arlington Airport. It was their first direct conversation, even though Khan had wanted to meet McMahon before. They discussed possible ways to work together, leading to more rumors about McMahon’s potential role in AEW.

While speaking on Behind the Turnbuckle, Jonathan Coachman mentioned how people started talking when a picture of Shane McMahon and Tony Khan meeting came out, with rumors that McMahon wanted to join AEW. However, all that talk suddenly stopped and there’s been no indication any progress was made.

According to Coachman, Shane McMahon asked for a significant deal, including equity in the company and control over the entire show. He noted that it was one of the rare times he agreed with Tony Khan’s decision, as Khan ultimately ghosted Shane rather than the other way around.

“I remember that picture that surfaced with Shane McMahon meeting Tony Khan, and there was all this speculation that he wanted to come into AEW. Then, all of a sudden, that talk just disappeared.

Well, I have it on good authority that Shane McMahon asked for the world—he wanted equity in the company, and he wanted to come in and run the entire show. And honestly, it was probably the first time I said to myself, ‘I actually agree with Tony Khan ghosting him.’ Because Tony ghosted Shane—it wasn’t the other way around.

The Young Bucks ended up meeting Shane McMahon last year at the airport while they were traveling from AEW Grand Slam at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York. Of course, nothing came out of that appearance either.

With the AEW meeting going nowhere and no clear way back to WWE, Shane McMahon’s future in wrestling is unclear. He used to have important roles in WWE, but right now, it seems evident that neither AEW nor WWE has a spot for him.

Do you think Tony Khan made the right call by ghosting Shane McMahon? Would Shane have been a good fit for AEW? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
