Tony Khan might be singing Chris Jericho’s praises on the radio—but according to Jake Hager, the AEW boss wasn’t even answering Jericho’s texts.

In a recent interview on The Torg and Elliott Show, Khan made it crystal clear that he’s still holding the door open for Jericho’s AEW return.

“Chris Jericho’s been here since the very beginning. And I have so much great respect for Chris Jericho… We absolutely want Chris Jericho back in AEW, and hopefully soon.”

Khan called Jericho a “huge part of the history of AEW” and dodged directly confirming a return, instead telling fans, “Stay tuned to the show… that’s one of the reasons you watch the wrestling show is to see the returns.”

But just as Khan painted a warm picture publicly, Jake Hager dropped a brutal backstage reality check—alleging that Jericho was ignored for weeks at a time by the same man now publicly begging for his return. Speaking on Unscripted with Sportskeeda, Hager claimed AEW’s inner structure fell apart after Cody Rhodes left—and said even Jericho couldn’t get a text back from Khan.

“Even Chris, he would tell me that Tony would not respond to his like messages for like two weeks.”

Hager said the problem wasn’t just ghosting Jericho—it reflected deeper neglect from AEW’s top boss.

“It became a point to where like either AEW is important or it’s not. And it just seemed like it was not to him.”

He went further, claiming the company stopped holding production meetings and left talent clueless on live taping days.

“They stopped doing production meetings. They stopped doing anything to make the show timely.”

“We would be waiting around till like 5:00 p.m. to find out what we’re doing that day. And like—what live television show does that? Only one—only one with money behind it.”

Chris Jericho hasn’t appeared on AEW programming since April and has been keeping his options open, even telling the Daily Mail he “wouldn’t be opposed” to a WWE return. But now fans are left wondering—if Jericho really was getting ghosted behind the scenes, how genuine is Tony Khan’s pitch to bring him back?

AEW’s leadership is once again under the spotlight. Should Khan walk the walk instead of just talking the talk—or is this just part of the game in pro wrestling? Drop your thoughts in the comments and let us know what you believe.
