Shane McMahon sparked plenty of speculation after his private meeting with Tony Khan near Arlington Airport—but now there’s finally clarity on why nothing ever came from it.

After Shane previously addressed the situation and made it clear AEW “isn’t WWE,” the focus has now shifted to Khan’s side of the story—and what actually happened during that meeting.

Speaking on The Coach and Bro Show, Khan broke down the interaction and made it clear the conversation itself went well—but it never went beyond that. Khan first explained how the meeting even came together, revealing that it was Shane who reached out and initiated the conversation.

“I had one really pleasant conversation with Shane. Shane reached out to me and said he’d love to get together and asked where I was going to be. I was going to be in Dallas—we were doing shows in Arlington, Texas—and I said, ‘Yeah, that’s where we’re going to be.’”

He then gave more detail about the meeting itself, describing it as a long, positive discussion—but also stating that it was a one-time interaction: “We had a good conversation. We talked for a few hours in the airport. But I only had one really nice talk with him.”

From there, Khan explained the key reason things didn’t move forward—he didn’t get the sense that Shane was actually interested in stepping into a wrestling role within AEW. Khan closed by making it clear that Shane didn’t approach the meeting with any intention of becoming part of AEW’s on-screen product.

“He seemed like an interesting guy, but I don’t think the role of being an on-screen person in a wrestling show seemed like something he was interested in. I don’t think he went into it thinking, ‘I want to be a character on this guy’s show.’”

That changes the narrative. What was previously rumored as a missed opportunity—or even a case of Khan “ghosting” Shane—now looks more like a situation where both sides simply weren’t aligned on what the next step should be.

Do you think Shane McMahon would have been a good fit in AEW, or was it the right call for both sides not to move forward? Drop your thoughts and feedback below.
