The weekly ratings for AEW Dynamite and Collision are always a big topic of discussion among fans and now Tony Khan has admitted he doesn’t know the streaming numbers for the shows.
While speaking on the Ariel Helwani Show, Tony Khan was asked for an honest assessment of AEW’s ratings and attendance. He said he doesn’t have all the DVR or streaming numbers, especially since many fans now watch through HBO Max.
On TBS, AEW Dynamite drew about 600,000 viewers and ranked in the top 10 on cable for the night. With that and what he expects from streaming, he believes more people watched than last year’s Blood & Guts.
“I don’t have all the numbers on the DVR. I don’t know the streaming numbers—you’ve got to remember that we have a lot of fans who watch on HBO Max now. On TBS, it was 600,000, and in our time slot, it was one of the top shows. It ranked somewhere in the top 10 on cable for the entire night, and I think alongside ESPN and Fox News, TBS was one of the top channels. Also, to me, if you add in what I believe we have on our streaming audience, more people watched than last year’s Blood & Guts.”
Khan stated that he doesn’t have the exact streaming data and doesn’t know the total number of viewers. But since it was AEW’s most-watched show on TBS in months, he assumes it was also one of their strongest streaming nights.
Khan compared it to sports, where streaming numbers aren’t always fully available, but noted that platforms like the NFL have shown that streaming audiences are growing. For AEW, TBS remains the core platform on Wednesdays and streaming continues to expand, especially among younger viewers.
“No, I don’t have the streaming numbers. I honestly don’t know the streaming numbers, and I honestly don’t know how many people watched. But knowing that it was our most-watched show in months on TBS, it was probably our most-watched show in months on streaming. In sports, we don’t get every streaming number from every game with all the data, but I do know from the NFL that there’s a healthy and growing audience that watches events on streaming. So I think TBS is our bread and butter on Wednesdays, and I think that’s a growing part of the audience, especially in the younger demographics.”
Traditional TV ratings still matter, but streaming on HBO Max is becoming a big part of AEW’s audience, especially for younger viewers who watch online instead of on cable. Until full streaming numbers are shared more openly, fans and analysts will keep debating how many people are really watching AEW Dynamite and Collision, so it won’t change anytime soon.
Do you believe AEW’s actual viewership is higher than what cable ratings show? Should streaming numbers be made public to give fans a clearer picture? Sound off in the comments.
