Few WWE Superstars could imagine doing what John Cena has accomplished in his career. Through it all, he remained true to WWE and never signed with anyone else. That has brought even Tony Khan to speak on the matter.

John Cena is nearing the end of his in-ring career, with his final match scheduled for December 13 at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event in Washington, DC. As Cena prepares to retire, his legacy continues to be a topic of discussion across the wrestling industry.

While speaking with Z100 New York, Tony Khan was asked about Cena’s impact on pro wrestling. Khan addressed the topic and gave a detailed response about Cena’s career, work ethic, and the Greatest of All Time’s crossover appeal.

“Wow. I wasn’t expecting that, but it was a great question. John Cena’s absolutely a legendary pro wrestler who came into the space and became a huge star very quickly on television because he has so much charisma, and he’s one of the hardest working people as far as I know in pro wrestling. I’ve never actually met John Cena, and I have a ton of respect for him as a wrestler. He seems like a wonderful person. Everybody I know that’s worked with John Cena has only the very, very best things to say about him, and he’s known for being the utmost professional. I think he’s also a very, very talented actor. I’m a huge fan of the Peacemaker show on HBO Max. AEW Full Gear is presented by DC.”

DC being the presenting sponsor, we had a great partnership going with DC. So even though I’ve never worked with John Cena in any wrestling capacity, we are partners now with DC. So that may be as close as we ever get. But, I think that he’s absolutely fantastic in the ring, and he seems fantastic out of the ring.”

“Certainly on screen, one of the all-time greats, and he came into the wrestling business after many of the top stars were either getting ready to retire or entering the final phase of their career, and he really stepped up as one of the biggest wrestling stars of all time and even though I’ve never met him or talked to him, I have a ton of respect for him.”

Tony Khan also pointed to AEW’s current partnership with DC as a connection point between himself and Cena. As you all know, John Cena stars as Peacemaker in the DC franchise. Tony Khan’s main connection to it all was how AEW’s Full Gear pay-per-view is presented by DC.

John Cena will make a few more appearances before retiring, including a match at Survivor Series: WarGames on November 29. There is a report going around that WWE may have another title run in store for Cena as well.

Only time will tell if anyone ever breaks John Cena’s 17 World Title reigns, but he has certainly left his mark in pro wrestling. As John Cena embarks on a deeper Hollywood career, now he can pursue roles that don’t call for a cut pro wrestler look as well.
