Zayda Steel’s surprise appearance on Ring of Honor raised immediate questions—and now Tony Khan has responded directly about her status with AEW and ROH.

On a recent special Tuesday episode of ROH on HonorClub, Steel was seen in a backstage segment interacting with Leila Grey. With Final Battle looming, fans wanted clarity on whether that appearance meant she had officially signed.

During the pre-show Final Battle media call, Tony Khan was asked point-blank about Zayda Steel’s contract status. He didn’t confirm a signing—but he didn’t ignore the situation either.

“Well, I think we’ll stay tuned as Zayda Steel’s doing a great job and I think she does great work. She’s come out and we saw that promo with Leila Grey. I thought that was very interesting this week on ROH… Certainly, Zayda brought some good interest and I’d be interested to see more of her in ROH for sure so, stay tuned.”

That’s the first direct public comment from Khan since Steel popped up on ROH, and while it stops short of confirmation, it does show the door is open.

Previously, Fightful Select reported that AEW had shown interest in Zayda after her WWE I.D. contract expired in early October. That deal reportedly included matching rights but has since ended, making her a free agent. On the November 23 episode of The Fightful Report, Sean Ross Sapp clarified the situation further.

“Zayda Steel is not signed to AEW as of yet. Neither are Haiyan and Maya World either, all of which are very close to being signed. I think I shouldn’t even say very close. I should say they made very good impressions.”

So while Zayda Steel has appeared on ROH and caught Khan’s attention, she remains unsigned—for now.
