AEW has been competing with WWE for several years now and lately WWE has been scheduling events on the same day as AEW shows and now Tony Khan has addressed WWE’s tactics.
While speaking during the post-AEW Double or Nothing media scrum, Tony Khan was asked about other companies, like WWE, regularly scheduling events at the same time or near the dates of AEW shows.
Khan said the pattern has been very consistent and compared it to the level of head-to-head scheduling seen during the days of Jim Crockett Promotions. Khan noted that while others may be taking that approach, he believes things will play out very differently this time around.
“It’s pretty consistent. I’d say it’s the most event head-to-head scheduling since Jim Crockett Promotions. So a lot of scheduling, they went that way, and I can tell you this will go a lot differently than that did.”
This comes after WWE scheduled Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 12, which is the same day as AEW’s All In: Texas at the Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. They even ran the NXT Battleground Premium Live Event at the same time as AEW’s Double or Nothing pay-per-view this week.
While it’s clear that WWE sees AEW as competition and will continue to run events against them, Tony Khan is confident about AEW’s chances against WWE’s tactics. Therefore, fans can expect more AEW and WWE shows going head-to-head in the future and Tony Khan won’t be flinching.
