AEW has always been about holding shows at affordable prices for fans and that includes their pay-per-view model, which is why Tony Khan has made it clear he has no plans to change that.
While speaking on the Ariel Helwani Show, Ariel Helwani asked Tony Khan whether AEW will eventually move to a full subscription model instead of traditional pay-per-views. Tony said he isn’t sure, explaining that AEW has always focused on keeping prices fair so fans, friends, and families can enjoy the shows without breaking the bank.
Khan noted that AEW’s PPV prices have stayed the same since day one at $49.99 on cable and satellite, and are also available through partners like Amazon Prime and YouTube. However, their main media partner is Warner Bros. Discovery.
"I'm not sure. With AEW, something I've been conscious of and tried to stay consistent with is maintaining great prices for friends and family to come and watch the shows at affordable prices to be an AEW fan. Now, the PPV price of AEW has been consistent from day one. On cable and satellite, it's .99, and other outlets like Amazon Prime, YouTube, a lot of great places that are great partners, but our media partnership that drives AEW is WBD."
Tony pointed out that AEW pay-per-views being available on HBO Max has been great for fans because it offers the lowest price at $39.99, and HBO Max subscribers save even more.
Khan added that fan satisfaction means a lot to him, especially because he couldn’t buy every wrestling pay-per-view when he was a kid. That’s why he puts so much effort into making sure every AEW PPV feels worth the money and can be rewatched repeatedly.
"Now the pay-per-views are also on HBO Max, and it's been working out great for fans because it's the lowest price at .99, and if you're an HBO Max subscriber it's a great deal because you're saving money. We get great satisfaction from fans on our shows. It means a lot to me because I was a kid and my parents did not let me buy all the wrestling pay-per-views, and that's why I try to put so much into every pay-per-view and you get your money's worth out of this show, especially with the show being available to stream so you can watch them again and again."
Tony said AEW’s current model is working very well, and their new media rights deal is strong by any analyst’s standards. It shows the confidence that Warner Bros., TNT, and TBS have in AEW and supports the direction the company is taking.
"I think we have a great model right now, and we signed a great media rights deal which even the most stringent analyst would say is a really strong deal for AEW, and it makes a lot of sense to us and shows the faith Warner Bros., TNT, and TBS have with us."
AEW’s commitment to keeping things affordable is still one of its biggest strengths, and Tony Khan’s recent comments make that clear. The company is focused on putting fans first by keeping pay-per-view prices steady, offering more ways to watch through streaming. So it shows AEW is confident in its current approach and that’s what matters in the end.
