AEW has a lot of things going on that Tony Khan is very excited about. That being said, the future is uncertain.
Warner Bros Discovery may have a new owner, with Saudi Arabia reportedly interested as well. This could spell bad news for AEW, but Tony Khan is not worried about his current spot in WBD.
While speaking to the Ariel Helwani Show, Tony Khan was asked if he is concerned about Warner Brothers Discovery getting sold and AEW losing their position in the company. Khan answered to reiterate all the things that WBD has done to show confidence in AEW, so this is not a big concern for him.
"Well, I feel really great about AEW's relationship with Warner Brothers Discovery, and I think it's a great situation for us, where we're one of those strong franchises, like I said on multiple channels and properties, where AEW is clearly very strongly figured in."
"Just as an example, we've got this huge pay-per-view this Saturday, it's presented by DC as the presenting sponsor. I think anyone looking at Warner Brothers, anyone would say that this is a very important part of the portfolio. For DC to sponsor with us, and also the collaborations that they're doing with us."
AEW has collaborated with DC before, during their 300th episode. They ran special ads featuring the stars of Superman as well. DC is also expanding into AEW comic books as the pro wrestling world has crossed over. They also did a panel with DC at New York Comic Con. So, Tony Khan doesn’t seem very worried about AEW losing their place in WBD.
As AEW continues to grow, they may have growing pains. That always comes with things like that, and there is always risk. Tony Khan said that AEW is still a “very important part” of the WBD family, so the company selling might not affect them much.
