Chris Jericho’s future in AEW might be up in the air, but Tony Khan just made it crystal clear where he stands.

During the ROH Death Before Dishonor media call on August 29, 2025, Khan addressed Jericho’s contract status and possible return to WWE—and he didn’t shy away from praising the former AEW World Champion.

While speculation about Jericho’s return to WWE hit a fever pitch thanks to a recent Wrestling Observer report suggesting he could make a surprise Royal Rumble appearance in 2026, Khan’s tone was far from bitter. In fact, he expressed nothing but gratitude for Jericho’s work across AEW and ROH.

“If and when the time presents itself, I would love to have him back. He’s always in the highest of standing in AEW or ROH.”

That kind of statement could easily read like a farewell message. But in this case, it sounds more like a reminder that Jericho has an open-door policy if he ever decides to return to the AEW fold.

This comes just days after reports that most people in AEW wouldn’t know Jericho’s plans because his creative is handled directly by Tony Khan himself. It was also reported that WWE wasn’t currently discussing him in their creative meetings either, despite the company’s YouTube Vault quietly uploading old Jericho matches against Roman Reigns and John Cena—something fans saw as a possible hint.

As of now, Jericho’s AEW deal reportedly runs through late 2025. What happens after that remains uncertain—but one thing is clear: Tony Khan isn’t closing any doors.
