Tony D’Angelo is finally opening up about his time away from WWE — and it wasn’t about injury or backstage drama.
The NXT star disappeared from TV in July 2025 and returned in December, sparking speculation about everything from a main roster call-up to creative changes. Instead, D’Angelo returned with a noticeably different presentation — a more focused, stripped-down version of himself, leaving behind the “Don of NXT” persona that defined his run for years. Now, he’s explaining what really happened — and it goes deeper than wrestling.
Speaking on No-Contest Wrestling, D’Angelo shut down injury rumors right away and made it clear that his absence was more about stepping back and resetting.
“No injury. It was just a bit of a reset. I will say I did have a couple of personal things that came up unexpectedly. But honestly, things happen the way they’re supposed to.”
He went on to explain that the time away gave him a chance to slow down and gain a completely new perspective — something he feels has changed how he approaches both life and his career.
“So it was good, I got a reset, I kinda got a different perspective on life and work. In that time my wife got pregnant.”
That moment ended up being a major turning point, pulling him out of the constant cycle of training and performing that can take over a wrestler’s life. D’Angelo described how easy it is to get stuck in that routine — and how stepping away helped him reconnect with what actually matters.
“So it just… you get in this bubble and you’re just so, ‘Lift, work, eat, film,’ you’re just doing that for so long, you kinda forget why you got into this, or there’s life outside of this.”
Looking back, he made it clear he doesn’t regret the time off at all — in fact, he sees it as something he needed. And now that he’s back, D’Angelo says he’s coming in with a completely different mindset — one driven not just by career goals, but by responsibility at home.
“So sometimes you need a little reset, and I’m pretty thankful that I got that opportunity, and now I am what you see on TV. I have a whole new perspective and outlook on what I need to do to achieve my goals and take care of my family.”
Bottom line — Tony D’Angelo didn’t just return with a new character, he came back with a new outlook on life, and that shift could define what comes next for him in WWE.
