Toni Storm isn’t holding back when it comes to comparing her time in WWE to her current run in AEW—and what she had to say might surprise a lot of fans.
During a chat on Marking Out, Storm was asked about creative freedom in pro wrestling, specifically in AEW. But instead of gushing about her current company, she flipped the script and claimed WWE actually gave her more creative control than people assume.
When MVP explained how top-tier WWE stars typically get more control while others follow a rigid script, Storm pushed back with a blunt response.
“I don’t think I was told what to do enough. I wasn’t told to do anything actually… I mean, obviously you’re told what to do in a certain circumstance, but overall, I don’t feel like I was told what to do enough.”
She explained that while she was handed promos now and then, the larger vision for her character was rarely laid out by WWE:
“They would write promos, but I just kind of did it. I wasn’t really told, ‘Do this today.’ You’re a cat, and your name is bloody Tory Bloody Smith. No one told me anything. And I kept my name the whole time. It was like I had complete creative freedom, to be honest.”
Storm made it clear this wasn’t the case for everyone on the roster:
“I saw where others didn’t, and others were given things. So, it’s a very difficult thing for me to grasp.”
When the conversation turned to AEW, Storm admitted the inner workings of the company aren’t exactly black and white either:
“Yes, I can have ideas and input, but it’s very hard to explain the inner workings, isn’t it? It’s very complex. So many moving parts. It’s not as simple as like, just turn up and here’s your script. It’s not quite that.”
And in a comment that perfectly captures her unpredictable persona, Storm said she would’ve gladly gone along with any gimmick WWE gave her—no matter how bizarre:
“I wish they would [have given me something crazy]. I would’ve done anything, to be honest. If they had just given me some mad, off-the-wall thing, I would’ve just 100% gone with it.”
Storm’s words add a new layer to the ongoing conversation about who really has control behind the scenes in wrestling’s two biggest promotions. Her story proves that sometimes, having no plan at all is just as chaotic as being overproduced.
