This year’s AEW Double or Nothing event was held at the Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona. The show included a match for the AEW Women’s World Championship, and it was quite dramatic, all things considered.
On the May 14 episode of Dynamite, Mina Shirakawa won a four-way eliminator match by pinning the reigning champion, “Timeless” Toni Storm. The stipulation stated that if the champion was pinned, the winner would earn a title match.
AEW soon announced that Shirakawa would face Storm for the championship at Double or Nothing. The two threw down at last year’s Forbidden Door event. The two hyped their match with a few promo battles in the run up to the big pay-per-view event.
Fans were more than ready for this match, and the women got to business in a hurry. It didn’t take long for them to end up on the mat trading holds.
This was a hard-hitting match, and both competitors eventually ended up laying in the middle of the ring, selling the grueling match. Storm landed a sky high, but Mina kicked out at two. The match continued, whith Mina locking in a Figure 4, but Toni Storm was able to fight out of it.
Eventually, Toni Storm was able to hit a Storm Zero and retain her title. After the match, the two competitors locked lips to celebrate their big match at Double or Nothing.
This was a hard-fought win on pay-per-view. It could have gone any way throughout the contest, but Storm is still Timeless as AEW Women’s World Champion.
