Tommy Dreamer has changed his mind about one of WWE’s biggest mysteries, and now he thinks Vince McMahon could be the voice behind Randy Orton’s phone storyline.
Speaking on Busted Open After Dark, Dreamer said Monday’s RAW segment featuring Stephanie McMahon at Madison Square Garden made him rethink everything about who has been guiding Orton behind the scenes.
Dreamer explained that specific lines during the segment caught his attention, especially references tied to the history of Madison Square Garden and WWE itself.
“Madison Square Garden, ‘the house my grandfather built,’ and then later on it was Michael Cole saying ‘the house that Bruno built.’ Vince McMahon helped build Madison Square Garden. Vince McMahon helped take WWE to the next level. I can’t say helped. Vince McMahon did.”
Another moment in the segment pushed his theory even further. Dreamer pointed to Stephanie McMahon’s final words to Cody Rhodes as the line that made him reconsider who could be connected to Orton.
“That final line of ‘you’re not your father either,’ which got the ‘oh,’ that had me thinking. I was like, well, I know what I’m going to talk about first.”
What makes this shift stand out is that Dreamer previously believed The Rock was the one on the other end of Orton’s calls. Now, he says he’s leaning toward a completely different name.
“This whole time, I kept saying a long time ago Randy’s on the phone on Raw, and he’s like ‘of course you were watching,’ and ‘yes, there’s only one royal family.’ I said it was The Rock. And now I’m starting to lean another way.”
Dreamer also believes that if Vince McMahon did appear at WrestleMania 42, the reaction would be massive no matter how the moment played out.
“I think if he returns at WrestleMania, he will get an insane reaction.”
He admitted that his theory could end up being wrong, but said the segment clearly did its job by getting fans — and even him — talking about the mystery.
“Is this a teaser for Vince McMahon may show up? Is this just a nice little teaser to get people to speculate?”
Right now, the mystery around Randy Orton’s phone storyline is still unanswered, but Dreamer’s new theory adds a major twist to the conversation. With Orton set to face Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship in the Night 1 main event of WrestleMania 42, the identity of the person on that phone could end up being one of the biggest reveals of the year.
Do you think Vince McMahon being revealed as the person talking to Randy Orton would make sense, or should WWE go in a different direction? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
