The August 18th edition of Monday Night RAW saw Paul Heyman saying Tommy Dreamer should be dead. Fans wondered how Dreamer felt about this and now the ECW legend has finally responded to Heyman’s remarks.
While speaking on Busted Open Radio, Tommy Dreamer responded to what Paul Heyman said and made it clear he wasn’t upset by it. He explained that even Bron Breakker didn’t know he was still alive, but that was fine. Dreamer said the mention had him trending at #3 with RAW and the Bengals, which he thought was cool, just another 15 seconds of fame.
“He said, I know he’s not dead, but I should be. Then Bron Breakker had no clue I was still alive, but that’s okay. If your name is being said—and hey, I was trending #3, it was RAW, Bengals, and me, which was cool—I think that’s awesome. Just 15 more seconds of fame.”
Dreamer said he didn’t mind his name being used to get heat from the crowd, because it happens all the time. Whenever someone grabs a Singapore cane, people think of him. He was okay with that and didn’t feel the need to argue back.
Dreamer added that if wrestlers need to use his name, even though he doesn’t work in WWE anymore, to get attention, then that’s fine with him. He thought it was a good way to build heat, and he liked that in the end the other guy still lost.
“If a mention of your name is used to get heat from the crowd and they turn, I think it’s great. I have no problem with my name being used like that or in any way. You get it all the time. Someone pulls out a Singapore cane—boom, Tommy Dreamer. I’m okay with all of it. I don’t acknowledge anything. What are you gonna retort with? ‘I’m alive’? You’re welcome that you need to use me—someone who doesn’t work there, hasn’t worked there—to get yourself heat, and that’s awesome. I think it was a great shot to build up, and guess what? Your guy lost.”
Tommy Dreamer once again showed why he’s one of the most respected veterans in wrestling by brushing off Paul Heyman’s remarks and welcoming the attention it gave him. Despite their long history, Dreamer made it clear he didn’t take Heyman’s words too seriously and that’s all that matters in the end.
Do you think Paul Heyman went too far with his “should be dead” line, or was it just good heel heat? Sound off in the comments.
