Tom Segura’s surprise WWE RAW appearance may have landed with fans, but behind the curtain, it stirred up serious tension.
On the latest episode of WrestleVotes Radio, hosts JoeyVotes and TC revealed that Segura’s cameo didn’t sit well with several people in the company. According to the report, “a lot of people—wrestlers, staff in Stamford—were not happy about Tom Segura being involved.”
The frustration reportedly stems from Segura’s past remarks about professional wrestling, which didn’t paint the industry in the most respectful light. Even though he appeared alongside fellow comedian Bert Kreischer and shared screen time with The War Raiders in a lighthearted segment, the backlash was already brewing internally.
The podcast hosts noted that “his appearance caused a stir backstage,” especially among those who remember his previous comments criticizing or mocking the wrestling business.
While Segura’s involvement was made possible due to his relationship with Netflix—WWE’s new broadcast partner for RAW starting in 2025—it seems that partnership wasn’t enough to smooth things over with the locker room.
“The only reason this happened is because of his Netflix connection,” said one of the hosts.
With WWE now deeply tied to Netflix, we might be seeing more celebrity crossovers like this in the future, but not every cameo is going to be a crowd-pleaser backstage.
Segura hasn’t addressed the criticism yet, but his previous stance on wrestling—and WWE’s decision to spotlight him—has clearly left a few people in the company shaking their heads.
