It looks like that ROH Women’s World Title match fans expected for AEW All In isn’t happening after all — despite all the rumors.
During Wrestling Observer Radio earlier this week, Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez discussed the growing tension between Thunder Rosa and reigning ROH Women’s World Champion Athena. The pair clashed during an eight-woman tag team main event on Collision, and when Athena used the title belt to pin Rosa, many assumed it was building toward a major showdown at AEW All In in Texas.
Meltzer even stated on-air that a title match between Rosa and Athena at All In was “the plan.” But it turns out, that wasn’t the case. On Thursday, Rosa issued a challenge to Athena — not for All In, but for ROH Supercard of Honor the night before. In a clip shared on social media, Rosa made her intentions clear:
“Athena, I’m done with the games. July 11, Arlington, Texas, Supercard of Honor — me and you for that title. Let’s see if you’re really the champion you claim to be.”
Athena hasn’t officially responded yet, though with ROH x CMLL Global Wars airing Thursday night, the champion may have her say soon. But one thing’s clear — the big ROH Women’s Title match is set for July 11, not AEW All In on July 12.
It’s an interesting decision, especially with All In taking place in Texas — Rosa’s home state — and given how vocal fans were about wanting that match on AEW’s biggest summer show. But it appears that for now, the popular bout won’t be part of the All In lineup.
Do you think Rosa vs. Athena should’ve been saved for All In, or does Supercard of Honor make more sense? Hit the comments and let us know where you stand on how this one played out.
