Thunder Rosa hasn’t picked up a win on AEW television since her February 2025 match against Penelope Ford—and the weight of the losing streak is starting to take its toll. The former AEW Women’s World Champion recently opened up on her vlog about how difficult things have been behind the scenes, especially after being called last-minute to compete in a four-way eliminator match on the May 7 episode of Dynamite.
Rosa stepped into the ring that night against Toni Storm, Anna Jay, and Penelope Ford but came up short once again. That loss marked her fifth straight defeat, including multiple tag matches, adding more frustration to what she described as a rough time personally and professionally.
“Things are very somber for me right now. There’s a lot of things that I want. You guys make me believe that I should be a champion, but it doesn’t matter what I do, I still can’t reach. I can’t get a hold of that. It keeps becoming very frustrating.”
Rosa tried to stay upbeat while preparing for her appearance, joking about trying to channel her inner “Thunder Stone Cold Steve Austin”—complete with gear—but without a title, it felt incomplete.
“I’m gonna go into work, I’m gonna get hair and makeup done. Eat, prepare. Thunder Stone Cold Steve Austin is coming. I have the gear, but I didn’t bring a belt, so that’s not going to work. My chaps are going to fall. I will have to wait for that one. Maybe that’s my winning gear [laughs]. I’m trying to use that for later.”
The emotional turning point came when Rosa addressed how the losing streak has affected her confidence, admitting that self-doubt has crept in despite the support from fans.
“I wish I could say that I got this on the pocket, but I don’t. I really don’t. Losing, losing, losing makes you really somber and sad and question yourself. I’ve been questioning myself a lot lately. Straight up.”
She ended her reflection with a sharp critique of what it seems to take to get over in today’s wrestling climate—and didn’t hold back.
“I want to be a champion, but everybody else is telling me that I don’t have what it takes to be a champion. Eh, okay. Then what the f** do I have to do? Show my tits? I don’t know.”*
Thunder Rosa’s raw honesty may strike a chord with fans who’ve watched her fight to regain her momentum since returning from injury. Whether AEW answers the call is another story entirely.
