Thekla is still AEW Women’s World Champion — but not without controversy.
About two hours into AEW Dynasty 2026 at Rogers Arena, the AEW Women’s World Championship took center stage as Thekla defended her title against Jamie Hayter in a match that quickly turned into a hard fight. Fans inside the Vancouver crowd were loud from the start, and many were hoping to see Hayter walk out with the championship.
Jamie Hayter wasted no time taking control early. She came out aggressive and immediately went after Thekla, forcing the champion to absorb punishment in the opening minutes. Thekla managed to survive the early attack, but she had to do plenty of selling as Hayter kept the pressure on.
Things didn’t stay inside the ring for long. The fight spilled out toward the entrance ramp, where Thekla shifted momentum by planting Hayter with a DDT on the hard surface. That move gave the champion the opening she needed to slow the challenger down and regain control of the pace.
Back in the ring, Thekla stayed on offense and continued wearing Hayter down. Still, Hayter refused to stay down and nearly captured the title at one point, scoring a close near fall that had the crowd reacting. Frustration started to show, but she kept fighting and eventually countered Thekla’s spider walk attempt by lifting her into a piledriver for another close two-count.
The ending, however, is what people will be talking about. Thekla managed to secure the victory with her signature spider pin, but the finish didn’t come without questions. After the three-count, Jamie Hayter immediately argued that Thekla had grabbed the ropes during the pin. The challenger continued protesting the result as tensions flared after the bell.
Despite the argument and controversy surrounding the finish, the decision stood, and Thekla left AEW Dynasty still holding the AEW Women’s World Championship.
With Hayter claiming the champion bent the rules to win, this rivalry may not be finished just yet. A controversial ending like this often leads to unfinished business, and the fallout from this match could shape the next chapter in the women’s title picture.
Do you think Thekla truly earned the win, or should Jamie Hayter get another shot after the rope controversy? Let us know what you think.
