Mark Henry is finally shedding light on the infamous 1998 D-Generation X parody of the Nation of Domination—and he says The Rock never found it funny.

During a recent interview with Inside the Ropes, Henry opened up about the controversial segment where DX mocked the Nation, complete with blackface. While some in the locker room brushed it off as comedy, Henry says Dwayne Johnson made his feelings clear from the start.

“Dwayne didn’t like it from the beginning. He was like, ‘I don’t like it. I don’t like people dressing up like us. I don’t like people putting blackface on.’”

According to Henry, The Rock only went along with it to avoid causing backstage problems—but he was not cool with it.

“He was like, ‘If y’all want to do it then we’ll do it. But I just don’t like it. I’m just letting you know.’ Like, Dwayne never liked it.”

At the time, Henry admitted he viewed it as “part of the work,” but he now sees how damaging it was and understands why The Rock pushed back. In hindsight, Henry acknowledged that even those participating in the segment didn’t fully understand the cultural impact of what they were doing—and The Rock wasn’t willing to ignore it just for laughs.

“It was a little bit distasteful… and we all learned a valuable lesson from it on both sides.”

The DX parody has long been one of the most controversial moments of WWE’s Attitude Era, and Henry’s comments reveal that not everyone backstage was laughing.

The Rock stood his ground when it mattered. Do you think WWE would allow a segment like this on TV today? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
