Tatum Paxley isn’t trying to follow the blueprint—she’s rewriting it.
During an interview with The Battleground Podcast, the NXT Women’s Champion revealed why her title reign stands apart from every other, pulling back the curtain on the emotions and doubt she carries with her into every match. Right from the start, Paxley admitted she’s always been seen as the underdog. But before Halloween Havoc, something inside her shifted.
“There was such this confident, comfortable feeling… I feel like I just knew for some reason the time is now. Like this—this is correct. I feel like the stories that I’ve gone through and the people that I’ve connected with… everything just worked out in such a beautiful way and a beautiful time.”
She explained that her emotional breakthrough came while teaming with Lyra Valkyria—an experience that finally allowed her to step out of the shadows and connect with fans on her own terms.
“When I started doing my stuff with my sweet dove, Lyra Valkyria, I really feel like that is what allowed me to connect with people… I started feeling like I am my own person… I’m connecting to the audience with or without a title.”
Now champion, Paxley is determined to be a fighting one—even if that means ignoring the advice of her inner circle.
“I know my best friend Izzy and The Coleing want me to take a step back and not be so giving to everybody, but I want to be… I want to give out as many title opportunities as I possibly can.”
She even floated a specific dream match for her title: a rematch against TNA star Rosemary.
“I wrestled her already, but I had so much fun. I would love to have a title opportunity for Rosemary at TNA. I think that would be a lot of fun.”
But perhaps the most revealing part of the interview came when Paxley explained what truly sets her apart—it’s not dominance, it’s relatability. She says her reign brings something different: vulnerability.
“Even if you are my number one supporter, when I defend this title, there’s this sense of anxiety with it… But overall, me holding this title… even someone on top right now, I’m still very human… I overreact. I underreact. I have all these emotions… I think that’s what’s really cool about Tatum being your NXT Women’s Champion right now.”
In a world full of polished personas, Paxley is embracing her flaws, her feelings, and the fight that brought her here.
