Talk is Jericho Recap w/ Cyrus & Mark Madden – Tribute to Bobby Heenan, Restless in WCW, Over-Producing Commentators, More!

Jericho welcomes former WWE Superstar, Cyrus, and former WCW announcer, Mark Madden, to the show.

Madden informs that he worked with Heenan in WCW from 1994-2000. He says that Heenan was paid a lot of money to be in WCW, but he never seemed happy to be there. Heenan often would stay in his own locker room but Madden doesn’t think he did that because he felt above the other talent, he just viewed WCW as the minor leagues compared to WWE.

Much like Gene Okerlund, Madden doesn’t think Heenan was happy to be in WCW and he went there strictly for the money. He doesn’t think Heenan’s work in WCW was as consistent or inspired as his work in WWE, and that probably came about due to a lack of pride in the product he was calling.

Cyrus says that he considers Heenan to be the greatest Manager of all time, and a close second to Jesse Venture in terms of the greatest colour commentator of all time. He thinks that Heenan was one of the few talents during that era that could have had a legitimate Hollywood career, but working in the wrestling business stifled that.

Madden says Heenan is certainly one of the greatest talkers in the history of the business. He was so quick-witted and never had to stop and think about what he was going to say next. Today’s announcers are all produced through headsets, but Madden feels like that would have hampered Heenan’s ability to react and adapt on the fly.
