Despite all the rumors flying before the show, the Stranger Things cast was never actually meant to show up on WWE RAW.
According to PWInsider, there were never any plans for actors like Finn Wolfhard (Mike Wheeler) or any other cast members to attend the January 5 episode of RAW. The crossover event—billed as a special Stranger Things edition of WWE RAW—led to tons of speculation online about potential guest appearances, especially after a viral post the night before, but the entire presentation was always meant to be branding-only.
Instead, the collaboration focused on atmosphere and presentation. WWE transformed Brooklyn’s Barclays Center into a fully immersive Stranger Things-themed experience, complete with Demogorgons in the graphics, upside-down fonts, eerie lighting, and even a limited-edition Stranger Things WWE Championship belt.
This wasn’t just for show. According to the report, Netflix was thrilled with how the event turned out, viewing the crossover as a big push to promote their upcoming behind-the-scenes documentary One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things 5, which drops January 12.
So while Hawkins, Indiana didn’t invade RAW in person, the Upside Down definitely made its mark, but some fans still do feel that appearances from the cast members would have made it an even better show.
