Steve Austin is leaving the door open for a WrestleMania return, but the WWE Hall of Famer says the biggest stage in wrestling should still belong to today’s superstars.
Speaking on Busted Open Radio on March 16, Austin was asked about the possibility of appearing at WrestleMania 42. While he didn’t rule anything out, the Texas Rattlesnake made it clear he believes the focus should remain on the current WWE roster. Austin acknowledged the ongoing fan conversation about legends returning to the spotlight but said he understands why many people want the active performers to get the spotlight.
“It’s funny because you’ll sit there or they’ll put something on Instagram and people will say, oh, no, no, man, he’s too old, let the current talent have the spotlight. Let the current talent have the spotlight, of course. If I can go out there and do something, that’d be fine. They got a pretty good roster, you know? So I think those guys and gals, they need all the time.”
Austin also looked back at his memorable appearance during WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas. The WWE legend drove an ATV to the ring to announce the night two attendance before crashing into the ringside barricade and knocking down a fan—something that clearly still bothers him. Reflecting on the moment, Austin admitted he was extremely frustrated with himself afterward.
“God damn, when I crashed that four-wheeler last year up there against that wall, man, you talk about shting the bed big time. I was so pissed off about that. Because I was looking forward to going out there and announcing the attendance and then watching the show, seeing what kind of show the superstars were going to put on. And, man, I sh the bed on the big stage.”
Even with that mishap still fresh in his mind, Austin said he would welcome the chance to appear again if WWE reaches out.
“We’ll see if they have me back. If they do, that’s cool.”
Austin will already be part of WrestleMania weekend festivities in Las Vegas as a featured guest at the WWE World convention. However, he made it clear that any potential involvement at WrestleMania would likely be limited to an appearance rather than stepping back into the ring.
The WWE legend’s last match came at WrestleMania 38 in Arlington, Texas, where he defeated Kevin Owens in a No Holds Barred match during a surprise comeback that thrilled fans around the world. While Austin remains one of the most iconic figures in wrestling history, his latest comments show he understands that the future of WrestleMania belongs to the current generation of WWE stars.
